UFC 300 commenced with a finish, as two-time flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo submitted former bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt with a rear-naked choke in the closing moments of the second round.

In the bantamweight bout, both fighters were selective with their strikes in the opening round, with Garbrandt initiating with a series of low kicks and Figueiredo responding similarly, albeit with less frequency. The Brazilian sought to grapple towards the end of the round and quickly secured a takedown in the second.

Garbrandt remained patient as Figueiredo attempted an arm-triangle choke, but during a scramble late in the second, Figueiredo took control of the back and applied the choke. This marks consecutive victories for “Deus da Guerra” since moving to the 135-pound division, establishing him as another contender in the talent-rich division.

Bobby Green defeats Jim Miller by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-25, 29-26) Veteran lightweights Bobby Green and Jim Miller finally met in the Octagon after three previous attempts fell through, with Green dominating the only fighter to compete at each of the UFC’s landmark “Double 0” events.

The first round was competitive and closely contested, with Miller landing damaging blows on Green early and late in the round, and “King” landing the more effective strikes in between. The Californian turned up the heat in the second round, using his speed advantage to damage Miller, and continued the assault in the third round to widen the gap between the two, maintaining the pressure until the final minute.

When the scores were tallied, Green emerged victorious with a unanimous decision, bouncing back into the win column after ending his 2023 campaign with a knockout loss. For Miller, the loss ends a two-fight winning streak and prevents him from earning victories at UFC 100, 200, and 300.

Jéssica Andrade defeats Marina Rodriguez by split decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28) In the first of Saturday’s three women’s bouts featuring compatriots, the power of Jessica Andrade proved to be the difference.
